RANT N' ROAR - DAY 15
AUGUST 24
Yesterday marked the final day of competition for many of our Team NL athletes, and what a day it was! On the track, Gavin Baggs capped off his Canada Games experience in spectacular fashion, winning his fourth medal of the Games—another silver. Congratulations, Gavin!
Today, we had the tremendous honor of welcoming Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, to the Fortis Canada Games Complex. She participated in the Medal Ceremony and took the time to meet some of our Team NL athletes—a truly special moment for all involved.
While not every result went our way yesterday, our athletes showed unwavering determination and embodied the spirit of “true sport” throughout. Congratulations to everyone as we look ahead to the final day of competition in Artistic Swimming, Mountain Bike, and Soccer.
We also had the privilege of selecting one of our athletes to carry the flag for Team Newfoundland and Labrador at the Closing Ceremony—a moment I will not soon forget, and an honor so well deserved.
Enjoy this final day at the Games, take in every moment, and make memories to last a lifetime.
Team NL’s Artistic Swimming squad wrapped up their Canada Games journey in style during the final team event. The girls delivered a strong performance, hitting all elements with precision and artistry.
Abby, Abigail P., Abigail T., Amelia, Emma, Lauren, and Mia showcased their hard work and teamwork under the guidance of coaches Taylor and Shannon.
The stands erupted in cheers, celebrating not only the routine but also the unforgettable experience these athletes created together.
Team NL swimmers truly made waves at the Games!
Today marked the final day of competition for Team NL’s mountain bikers, and what a day it was! With two girls and three boys representing the team in the short track event, the energy was high and the performances even higher.
Under clear skies and ideal weather conditions, a supportive crowd gathered to cheer on the athletes. Each rider pushed themselves to the limit and achieved personal bests! A true testament to their hard work and determination.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Coach John Hancock and Manager Laura Edwards. Your dedication, leadership, and passion for this growing sport have made all the difference. Team NL is proud, and the future of mountain biking looks bright!
Team NL athletics wrapped up competition this morning with a sole athlete, Jasper Edinger, in the male pole vault. He finished the competition with a great performance, clearing 3.80m.
With athletics being the biggest contingent at the games for Team NL, came lots of new personal bests, new provincial records, and 3 medals this week. It was great to showcase their abilities at the brand new Fortis Canada Games Complex in front of the hometown crowd. Bright futures for all on the track and the field.
It’s been a great week, despite some unfavourable weather, but this team showed true grit and determination. Congrats to all!
On the final day of competition, Team NL’s women’s soccer team fell 3-0 to New Brunswick to finish 8th overall.
The first half was tightly contested until a penalty in the box gave NB the chance to open the scoring from the spot.
An own goal early in the second half was a tough blow, and despite battling hard with only 10 players, fatigue set in. NB capitalized late to seal the 3-0 result.
While the standings show 8th place, this resilient group was only a penalty shootout away from a medal round. The team should be proud—they represented NL with determination and heart throughout the Games.
