All 10 team NL Snowboard athletes took to the slopes today to compete in the Canada Winter Games parallel giant slalom (PGS) event. Run after run, each preformed well with fast transitions and balanced carved turns. Excitement stirred quickly as qualification results filtered through the grapevine and the team found out that 13 year old Andi Osmond and 20 year old Owen Lapshinoff both made it into the top 16 finals. Andi Osmond rode consistently and made it into the top 8 out of 25 female racers. Owen Lapshinoff continued to dominate with solid wins for the next two runs, driving him into the top 8 finals as well. The team and fans exploded with joy when he received 6th out of 28 male racers. 

TeamNLs Kate Paterson and Sam Follett took on Team SK in the inaugural draw of Mixed Doubles Curling this morning at the Montague Curling Club. 

It was an exciting Game as Mixed Doubles often is with lots of action at both ends. TeamNL started out very strong with with the games first point and three steals to go up 3 - 0 going into the fourth end. It was then SKs turn to trade steals, which tied the game at 3 - 3. Another single in 7 put TeamNL up 4 - 3 going into the 8th without the hammer. While Sam made a nice double to sit shot rock with his last rock, an unfortunate wobble from the hack on Kate's final stone meant SK took the game 5 - 4. 

The team is ready to bounce back and will be on the ice against Team AB tomorrow morning at 10am.

It was a great day at Crabbe Mountain today at the 2023 CWG Satellite site in New Brunswick! 

Team NL Alpine had 7 racers in the male and female Super G race and all 7 racers corssed the finish line proudly. 

Congratulations to Kate Murphy who had a personal best time of 52.94! Way to go girl!! Doing your best & nothing less! The Apline Team takes on the Giant Slalom course tomororw. 

Another great day at Brookvale, as it started with the male 1.2km classic sprint qualifier followed by the female event. Spirits were high as great displays of grit and determination were left on the course. 

Jeremy Jones began the day qualifying for the sit ski sprint final. It was great to see all the Team NL X-Country Ski team along with parents and Mission Staff cheering Jeremy on as he dug in hard crossing the finish line. Tomorrow Jeremy has the 2.5km interval start event in the morning  and the others have a non-competition day. Let’s go Team NL! 

It was a FANtastic Friday for TeamNL’s Male Curlers!!

Both TeamNL and TeamQC had their fans on the edge of their seats from the opening rock to the final skip’s stone in the 8th!

The tone of the game was set when TeamNL’s lead, Isaac Manuel, placed his first two shots on the button fully buried behind a QC guard. Our boys scored an opening deuce forcing Team QC to play catch-up for the entire game.

The second end was blanked. Both teams traded singles in the 3rd and 4th ends. TeamNL was leading by 2 going into the midgame break. With the hammer, QC executed an impressive score of 2 by doubling off 2 NL stones that were in the four foot. After the 5th the game was tied at 3.

Both teams again traded points in the 6th and 7th ends. With hammer in the 8th TeamNL needed to score a single for the win.

TeamQC had a single centre guard just outside the 12 foot. They attempted to place another high guard just over the hog line with their remaining stones. TeamNL’s second Jack Kinsella and Third Spencer Tipple executed perfect peels on QC’s guard attempts.

QC’s skip played his well executed final shot, a draw to bite the top 4 foot. With the game on the line, TeamNL’s skip Parker Tipple had to draw a good chunk of the four foot for the win.

Right out of his hand the sweepers were calling T-line weight. As the rock approached the house a full team effort was needed to sweep their skip’s rock to the 4 foot. Shot made! The Silver Fox Arena erupted in cheers from the many NL fans who were in attendance.

TeamNL has made playoffs and will face TeamON 9 am tomorrow morning!!

Todays matches at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre came down to a nail biter between TeamNL and Team Nunavut. The team played well through all 3 rounds and all were incredibly close. Unfortunately, TeamNU squeaked out ahead for the victory. TeamNL faces off against TeamNT again tomorrow morning at 9am in their team placement encounter. 

The NL Female Hockey Team began their day with a short practice and then watched some video footage to help prep them for their second preliminary game. Team NL faced Team Yukon at 12:30 and came out on top with a final score of 6-1. Jessica Mercer picked up a pair of goals, with singles from Olivia Sparkes, Haley Ryan, Leah Wicks and Molly Gill. Our girls out shot Team Yukon 46-21. 

Both the coaches and the girls are pleased with their performance at Canada Games over the last two days. The girls plan to have a relaxing evening and go cheer on the Team NL Badminton athletes as they compete tonight. Go Team NL Go! 

Today was the final day of competition at the Judo venue for TeamNL. 7 athletes fought in 6 different divisions. Although we didn't make it to the medal round, competitors did pull off victories. The field was very tough and included many National and World Junior Champions, but Team NL fought their hardest. 

The coaching staff is very proud of their efforts. They did the province proud! We also want to say a big thanks to Trent Pennel, our mission staff. You've been awesome! The team is now looking forward to getting out and cheering on Team NL in other sports. Go NL!
