TeamNLs Kate Paterson and Sam Follett took on Team SK in the inaugural draw of Mixed Doubles Curling this morning at the Montague Curling Club. 

It was an exciting Game as Mixed Doubles often is with lots of action at both ends. TeamNL started out very strong with with the games first point and three steals to go up 3 - 0 going into the fourth end. It was then SKs turn to trade steals, which tied the game at 3 - 3. Another single in 7 put TeamNL up 4 - 3 going into the 8th without the hammer. While Sam made a nice double to sit shot rock with his last rock, an unfortunate wobble from the hack on Kate's final stone meant SK took the game 5 - 4. 

The team is ready to bounce back and will be on the ice against Team AB tomorrow morning at 10am.

It was a great day at Crabbe Mountain today at the 2023 CWG Satellite site in New Brunswick! 

Team NL Alpine had 7 racers in the male and female Super G race and all 7 racers corssed the finish line proudly. 

Congratulations to Kate Murphy who had a personal best time of 52.94! Way to go girl!! Doing your best & nothing less! The Apline Team takes on the Giant Slalom course tomororw. 

Team NL Snowboard had a stellar day at the Slopestyle competition. Athlete Andi Osmond started the day off with a bang as the very first NL snowboard athlete to compete in the Canada Winter Games! She, along with Maggie Gill and Elizabeth Lavoie slayed the boxes and got substantial air on the jumps. 

Caleb MacDonald, Liam Fenske-Allison, Finn Howell, and Justin Motty then hit the course with an enthusiastic crowd of fans both in person and online, as their classmates watched the live stream during school. The males had a thrilling combination of clean conservative runs and beautifully extended grabs over 15 foot jumps. 

Team NL began their Games competition at the Silver Fox Entertainment Complex today in Summerside. It came down to the final stone as Team Tipple made an amazing shot to score 3 and defeat Team Saskatchewan 9-7. There was a lot of great support in the stands today from family, friends, mission staff, and our Mixed Double team!  These young men will be back in action tomorrow at 2 pm against Team Nova Scotia!

TeamNL Judo were on the mats again today for a training session at the PEI Convention Centre. 

The team will have weigh-ins this evening. Three athletes will then begin their competition tomorrow. 

The NL Female Hockey Team began their day with a short practice and then watched some video footage to help prep them for their second preliminary game. Team NL faced Team Yukon at 12:30 and came out on top with a final score of 6-1. Jessica Mercer picked up a pair of goals, with singles from Olivia Sparkes, Haley Ryan, Leah Wicks and Molly Gill. Our girls out shot Team Yukon 46-21. 

Both the coaches and the girls are pleased with their performance at Canada Games over the last two days. The girls plan to have a relaxing evening and go cheer on the Team NL Badminton athletes as they compete tonight. Go Team NL Go! 

It was another chilly, beautiful blue bird day at Brookvale for the first day of competition. The male contingent was up first in the 10km classic interval start, followed by the female 7.5km. All athletes left their best on the snow and enjoyed the challenging route. Spirits were high when they were greeted by their teammates, coaches, and Team NL Mission Staff at the finish line. 

Hats off to all the athletes for a great first day of competition. Special thanks to coaches and wax technicians pulling long hours to get the skis in great shape! Up tomorrow are the classic sprint for all athletes, including first day for para sit ski!  

Team NL Figure Skating brought lots of energy to the Eliyahu Wellness Center on Tuesday. The day started with official practices for Special Olympics Men Level II followed by the Pre Novice Ladies, Pairs, Dance and Men. 

Ice Dancers  Kaitlyn Smith and Dawson Smith skated a crowd-pleasing Rocker Foxtrot and Killian as they competed in the Pattern Dance segment of the Pre Novice Dance event.  

Adam Masek brought classic rock and roll to centre ice with his Pre Novice 

Short Program choreographed to Jailhouse Rock. Jonathan Flynn, also competing in Pre Novice Men's Singles skated a clean short program which was just .1 off a new personal best score! Adam and Jonathan will skate their long programs  on Thursday.

Competition continues on Wednesday with Lilly Evans and Mark Butt competing in the Pre Novice Pairs Short Program and Rachael Tuff and Jasmine Wheadon representing Team NL in Pre Novice Women's Singles will also skate their short programs Wednesday evening. 

Individual competitions kicked off today for our team. We had some tough pairings but so proud of how our athletes played. Doubles competition also took place. Great work and a whole lot of heart left on the court today. Looking forward to some training days and team competition later this week
