RANT N' ROAR - DAY ELEVEN

ATHLETE PROFILE: ADAM JAMES

Volleyball athlete Adam James is attending the 2022 Canada Summer Games. He has been playing volleyball for seven years and plays the opposite hitter position on Team NL. He began playing volleyball because his older brother played in school and he wanted to show him that he could be better than him, and from his perspective, he is.

He took time out of his day to tell us what he is looking forward to during the Games.

“What I am looking forward to at the Games is competing and showing the big provinces that Newfoundland can compete.”

Chef's Corner

It was a busy day yesterday for Team NL with competitions starting up again at the Canada Summer Games for week two. Competition for the team were happening around several venues around Niagara, with a preliminary round of diving happening at Etobicoke Olympian. It was a great drive to Etobicoke to see our diver Merrick Noel who competed in his first ever 3 metre Springboard Male event. As a novice to artistic diving, he did well. I also got out to see our men’s softball team play against Team BC. It was a great game.

Last night, myself and all of Team NL mission staff got out for a bit of downtime after a full day of visiting venues and cheering on our athletes. Canada Games Council hosted a traditional Pepper Party at Johnny Rocco’s, and I represented Team NL well, earning my gold and red pepper pin by eating all four peppers – jalapeno, serrano, habanero, and scotch bonnet - in 15 minutes.

With another full day of competition for Team NL at the Games, I got out to see our male volleyball players, and join our rowing team for their lunch break at Henley. It was a hot day at the track as I took in triple jump, several wheelchair races, shot put and steeplechase. Tomorrow I look forward to more volleyball, and visit our road cycling team for the first time. We will enjoy a little downtime this evening as our Mission team get together for supper and some good conversation, as we are joined by some members of the 2025 host society, looking forward to a nice evening.

In their second match of the day, the Women’s Volleyball Team continued to dominate as they defeated Team PEI in straight sets. They are back on the court at Canada Games Park tomorrow morning at 9 am as they face Team Nunavut.

Golfers enjoy first day of competition on the course

Our male volleyball team started their day with a light stretch and practice. They hit the court at Canada Games park at 4:00 pm (EST) to play against Team Nunavut. Team NL played a solid game and came out on top 3-0.

A lot of hard work and team spirit was displayed in this game.

However, in the second half NB broke the deadlock at the 49 minute mark.  They then scored on a penalty kick at the 54 minute, and again late to secure the 3-0 win.
