RANT N' ROAR - DAY EIGHT

WEEK TWO ATHLETES ARRIVE IN NIAGARA

It was a travel day to Niagara for our week two athletes, with our athletics, road cycling, diving, golf, sailing, volleyball, female soccer, and male softball athletes arriving to compete at the 2022 Canada Summer Games. It will certainly be another busy week with 143 athletes, 33 coaches and mangers, 12 mission staff.

Our Diving team arrived at the satellite village at Humber College. Tomorrow is a training day for Merrick, our solo diver, and competition will begin on Tuesday. He will compete at the Etobicoke Olympium before returning to Brock later in the week to finish off competition. Good luck Merrick!!

We are excited for them to begin their competitions!

TEAM NL WEEK ONE ATHLETES RETURN HOME

The 2022 Canada Summer Games week one competitions ended on Saturday, August 13, 2022 in Niagara. That meant that our athletes had a travel day back to St. John’s after a successful outing at the Canada Summer Games. Team NL week one baseball and rugby athletes arrived home on WestJet 626 flight, landing at St. John's International Airport at 11:30 am. The other remaining athletes arrived on a charter flight, Nolinor 50592 at 2:45 pm.

The arrivals area was filled with family and friends who cheered and clapped as they came down the steps after disembarking their flight.

Chef's Corner

Team NL week two athletes have arrived safe and sound in Niagara and are ready to compete. In week two of the 2022 Niagara Canada Summer Games, 124 athletes, 18 coaches, 14 support staff, and 11 mission staff will represent Team Newfoundland and Labrador. They will have a full week ahead of them as they begin competition, and I hope that the success of week one follows our athletes into week two.

Throughout the start of the Games, it has been great to see the support that those back home have shown for our Team NL athletes, coaches, managers, and support staff. I hope that they will continue to follow along to see what our week two athletes do and the successes they achieve.

As our athletes settle in I can’t but reflect on all the amazing things that happened in week one of the Games. Our Team NL swimmers topping the provincial medal count in the pool, Jaida Lee being able to make history by becoming the first ever female player to compete in men's competition at the Games and throwing the first pitch ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays game against Cleveland Guardians. Seeing Delcan Walsh receive the first inaugural Pat Lechelt True Sport Award, presented at Niagara Place as part of the 2022 Canada Summer Games, was a great way to end the week. They have all been true ambassadors for Team NL!

Week one mission staff have fun at games

Our wonderful mission staff from week one could be seen out around enjoying Niagara and many of the sports competitions. They are the people who behind the scenes who have helped make the Canada Games happen. With over 150 athletes competing in 12 sports, they had their hands full and late nights and early mornings. They had a great time, and it was definitely worth it because their smiles said it all. That you for all you did supporting our teams this past week!

Our next group of mission staff have arrived in Niagara and we are sure that they will do an amazing job.
