There is no doubt that the highlight of the day for Team NL was the opening ceremonies held at Sherbrooke Stadium on Friday evening. Team NL paraded into the stadium to an enthusiastic welcome by the many NL families, friends and supporters that have come to Sherbrooke to cheer on our teams! Great Big Sea played to the full stadium crowds delight as our team walked in and the energy and excitement by Team NL athletes had everyone in the stands on their feet! The ceremony highlights included amazing acrobatic trampoline artists, a performance by Johnny Reid, awesome dancers, the mayor of Lac Megantic walking in as a flag bearer and an impressive fireworks display. Kudos to the young boy that carried the flame on its final leg to light the flame officially opening the Games. Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers for a seamless and excellent event.

Teams now will begin to go back into preparation mode as they head into their first competition day tomorrow.

Go Team NL!

Friday was a preparation day at the Games, with all teams getting settled holding scheduled practices throughout the day. Teams also spent the day getting settled in the Athlete`s Village and making themselves at home in their "home away from home" for the next week!

A few members of the women`s soccer team, along Team NL flag bearer Owen Daly, Michelle Healey & Rod Snow joined Team PEI, Team NS and Team NB for a reception thanking Atlantic Lottery Corporation for their support of each team. Honourable Minister Derrick Dalley also participated in the reception and then attended the Opening Ceremonies representing Newfoundland & Labrador.
